Rune Captioner

Live captions on the main screen and the stream, right from the browser

You speak and Rune Captioner writes it down, right away. Open it in Chrome or Edge, pick the language and send captions to the projector, OBS or vMix. With translation, if the event needs it.

Who it is for

  • Broadcast techs

Put captions over the video in OBS or vMix, with a transparent background.

  • Event production companies

Conferences, talks and corporate events with captions on the main screen for the audience to follow.

  • Events with an audience that speaks another language

Translated captions show next to the original or on a screen of their own.

You speak, captions appear. Nothing to install

Open Rune Captioner in Chrome or Edge, pick the spoken language and click Start captions. The preview shows the output, scaled to 1920×1080.

  • 116 spoken languages, with mic selection and a level test
  • Real time, which shows and corrects as it goes, or stabilized, which waits for the word to settle
  • Interim text can use a dimmer color, to tell it apart from final text
  • After a pause, it breaks the line or clears the screen on its own

Watch simulated speech turn into captions. Switch to stabilized mode and turn off the glossary to compare.

Captions in OBS or vMix, on any computer in the tech crew

Turn on Send to other computers and copy the link. Paste it into an OBS Browser source or a vMix Web Browser input.

  • Transparent background, ready to sit on top of the video
  • The streaming computer only needs internet, not Rune Captioner open
  • Translated captions can go through the link too
  • Generating a new link turns off the old one right away

On the same computer, the caption window goes to the projector or to capture

A window with only the captions, no controls. Drag it to the second monitor, press F11 and it follows the control screen.

  • Same look as the preview, in real time
  • Solid green background for chroma key with OBS Window Capture or vMix Desktop Capture
  • A .txt file written nonstop for the OBS Text source
  • You choose characters per line and visible lines for the file

The sponsor name spelled right, with no one fixing it on air

List the event terms: names, brands, acronyms. The app compares what it heard with the list by sound and fixes it on its own.

  • Glossary with low, medium or high sensitivity
  • Test without speaking: type a sentence and see how it comes out
  • Word replacement for the mistakes you already know
  • Profanity filter, with asterisks or removing the word, in Portuguese and English

Talk in Portuguese, captions in English on the other screen

Translation uses the translator built into Chrome and Edge. One window shows the original, another shows the translation.

  • On the control screen: original only, both, or translation only
  • Separate translation window, to capture on its own
  • The translated sentence comes in whole, usually a second after the original
  • Chrome 138 or Edge 148 and later. The first time, the browser downloads the language

What changes with live captions

Without captions, part of the audience misses the talk. With captions typed by hand, someone has to keep up with every word. With Rune Captioner, the text comes from the speech.

Questions from operators

Does it need internet?

Yes. Rune Captioner needs internet to write captions. The link for OBS and vMix uses the internet too.

Which browsers work?

For full functionality, use Google Chrome on a computer. Microsoft Edge also opens it, but Chrome is recommended. The first time, allow the mic. For translation, use Chrome 138 or Edge 148 and later.

Does it work with OBS and vMix?

Yes, in three ways. The link in an OBS Browser source or a vMix Web Browser input, with a transparent background. Capturing the caption window with a green background and chroma key. Or the .txt file in the OBS Text source.

Are the captions error free?

No. Recognition makes mistakes, mostly with names, acronyms and poor audio. The glossary and word replacement fix mistakes that repeat. The cleaner the audio reaching the computer, the better the captions.

Can I download the transcript?

Yes, as .txt, .doc or .srt. The .srt uses the times each part was recognized: good for a first cut, not for final subtitling.

How does the free trial work?

7 days. Each session ends after 20 minutes, and you can start another. Everything is unlocked in the trial, including downloading and copying the transcript.
